Frequently Asked Questions

People understandably have a lot of questions about the commission process, so this page aims to answer a lot of the questions people have about the portables and parts of the commission process.

How long is the turnaround time on a portable?

It depends on a few factors, but it generally takes me between two and three months to ship a completed portable from the time the first payment is sent. Some parts take around a month to ship from China, which is the primary slowdown for turnaround.

Do you include games on the portable?

For legal reasons, I cannot include and games or ROMS on the portables I sell. If I included games on my portables I could be held accountable by anti-piracy laws, and I’d like to avoid having to deal with anything like that. I make sure to help everyone who buys a portable get all of their own games onto the portable, so don’t worry about the process of adding games if you are unfamiliar with the procedure. Everyone I have sold a portable to has gotten the games they wanted working properly.

What games can portable Wiis play?

My portables run all GameCube and Wii games perfectly with no slowdowns in gameplay. Running the games through USB means that there may be occasional slowdowns during intensive cutscenes, but that’s the only time you’ll notice a difference. Wii portables can also emulate a variety of systems, such as NES, SNES, N64, PS1, GB, GBC, GBA, and other older retro systems. The emulation isn’t perfect, so some emulated games may not work well or at all, particularly on PS1 and N64 emulation.

Do all GameCube and Wii games really work?

Aside from a couple of oddities with obscure 3rd party games, all GameCube and Wii games will boot on a portable. The built in controller may not support all movements needed for some Wii games such as Skyward Sword or Wii Sports at this time, so I recommend playing those sorts of games on a big screen with standard controls.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, I can ship internationally to most countries. I highly recommend using DHL for international shipping, as I have not had good experiences with other companies. If you live outside of the USA, then you will need to cover all shipping costs, as well as any fees or import duties your country may have.

How do I make payments?

I do all payments through PayPal. I generally request half of the money up front and half upon completion of the portable, but I can be somewhat flexible if a different payment plan works for you. I do require that the payment be made in full prior to me shipping. No payment will be requested until I am ready to begin work on your build specifically.

Why don’t you do sales through a well known vendor like Amazon/eBay/Etsy/etc?

First, I prefer to do every sale with a direct line of contact to everyone I sell to to ensure that the buyer has a very good understanding of what they are purchasing, as well as to have an easy way to communicate about updates or issues after shipping the portable. Doing direct sales with PayPal as the sole middleman also reduces the fees on my end, so that I can see as much of the profit as possible for my work.

What sort of warranty do you provide on a portable?

If any issues arise with the build shortly after you receive the portable then I will provide repairs free of charge. If the portable is dropped or damaged by something you did, then repair costs will apply. I guarantee that I will help with any repairs within the first year of the portable being sold, but I will likely still be willing to assist you if issues arise later on down the line.

How long do you plan on building portables?

I plan to sell portables for at least another year and will likely do occasional sales after that.

Are you single?

For a limited time only.

What is included in a purchase?

In addition to the portable itself, I include a charger, carrying case, and plastic stand for displaying the portable.
